Quality of life of Asthmatic Adult Patient’s in Kirkuk city

Background and objectives: Asthma is a life-long chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways, associated with variable structural changes, that affects all ages. Health related quality of life (HRQoL) has joined morbidity and mortality as a health outcome of interest in recent years. The study objected to assess quality of life for asthmatic patients and to predict the correlations among the domains of quality of life.
Materials and method: A descriptive study was conducted in Kirkuk General Hospital in Kirkuk city to assess the Quality of Life (QoL) asthmatic patients , and to identify the association between some characteristics of asthmatic patients such as (Age, Gender, Martial status, Level of education, Occupation and Severity of asthma ) and their quality of life. The study was initiated from 20 of June 2013 to 5th May 2014. Purposive sample consists of (70) patients with asthma were selected. For the purpose of data collection, a questionnaire was constructed instrument and literature reviews. It is composed of two parts, part one included (9) items that focused on the client demographic characteristics. Part two is composed of (5) items that contain of (98) items, data were collected through the use of interview. Of 3-likert scale option as: (1) for Always, (2) for Sometimes and (3) for Never. Content validity was determined by presenting the questionnaire to a panel of (8) experts.
Results: The findings of the study indicated that the sub-domain of sleep and rest as a part the physical domain, also the spiritual domain of the quality of life for patients had greatly affected.
Conclusion: The study concluded that found significant statistical of some of socio -demographics characteristic of asthma patients (Educational level and Severity of asthma ) with domains of the quality of life. Also, associations between the physical and spiritual domains
Recommendations: The study recommends to increase the number of specialized health related agencies and asthma units and to enhancing the community and social support of patients.

Assessment of Patients Satisfaction towards Nursing Care in Mosul City Hospitals

Background and aim: Patients' satisfaction has been used as a significant indicator of quality services provided by health care personnel. Consequently, the most important predictor of patients, overall satisfaction with hospital care is particularly related to their satisfaction with nursing care. Because nurses comprise the majority of health care providers. The aim of the current study is to assess the patients’ satisfaction toward nursing care provided in medical and surgical units in Mosul city hospitals.
Materials and method: A descriptive study represented in a purposive sample consisted of 1000 patients, the study was carried out at three different hospitals include Ibn Sina, Al Jumhory and Al Salam teaching hospitals. The study was conducted at medical and surgical Units; the data were collected through the use of constructing a questionnaire which consists of two parts, demographic characteristics and patients' satisfaction toward nursing care. Content validity was determined by presenting the questionnaire to a panel of 17 experts. The data were analyzed through the application of descriptive statisticas and inferential statistical analysis.
Results: Results of the current study revealed that more than half of patients were male 569(56.9%). The most of patients was married 785(78.5%).The majority of patients were from rural 562(56.2%), additionally, the male more satisfied than female and surgical patients’ satisfaction more than medical patients. the old age satisfaction more than another age groups, such as the lower level education high satisfied, the married patients more satisfied from other, the unemployed patients more satisfaction, the patients had not previous hospitalization more satisfaction. The patients are more satisfaction toward nursing skills from other domains. While there were a statistical significant difference between patient satisfaction toward nursing care provided and patients characteristics.
Conclusion: The current study concluded that patients were satisfied to nursing care
Recommendation: the study recommended that further studies should be conducted concerning patients satisfaction with nursing care provided in all hospitals.
A Study about Escitalopram Versus Citalopram in the Treatment of Depressive Disorders

Background and aim: To compare the therapeutic efficacy , time onset of action, and patient compliance of escitalopram versus citalopram in the treatment of depressive disorders (DD) in Kirkuk City _Iraq
Materials and Method: 100 outpatients complaining of (DD ) consulting psychiatric unit in Azadi teaching hospital were randomly categorized in to two therapeutic groups with escitalopram and citalopram. A structural interview form (questionnaire) containing socio demographic data and assessing 8 target symptom of depression according to (DSM-IV) derived from a preliminary pilot study in the same unit to reveal most common presentations of (DD ) in Azadi teaching hospital, psychiatric unit inpatients in Kirkuk city , these symptoms were assessed according to a 4 degree scale (0_3 ) according to clinical interview by consultant psychiatrist on call, patients were followed up for 12 weeks.
Results: The majority of the study sample were aged group was between (30-39) years, the male formed (38-40%), while the female (60-62%) in each group, (54-58%) of them were married, (48%) of the escitalopram group had moderate economic level while (44%) the of the citalopram group had low economic level, Muslim religion constitute (100%), and the no history of medical illness formed (80-88%).
Conclusion: The our study concluded statistically significant superiority of escitalopram versus citalopram regarding the effectiveness, early symptom relief, patient compliance and significant change in dose score, After 12 weeks of treatment with fixed dose of 20 mg of escitalopram and 20 _40 mg.
Recommendations: Further comparative studies between escitalopram andcitalopram are recommended with large sample sizes and longer duration of follow up to cover all stages of treatment of depressive disorder (DD) symptom.
Nurses' Knowledge and Practice Regarding Gynecological Laparoscopy in Maternity Teaching Hospital in Mosul City

Background and aim: Over the past decade, laparoscopy has become the standard surgical approach for a majority of gynecologic procedures, such as ectopic pregnancy management, fallopian tube and ovarian operations, management of cysts, staging of gynecologic cancers, and laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy. The study aim to assess nurses level of knowledge and practices regarding gynecological laparoscopy, To determine the knowledge defect during gynecological laparoscopy, and to determine the difference between demographic characteristics such as (age, level of education, and training courses) with their knowledge and practices.
Materials and Method: The researcher adopted a quantitative design where structured closed-ended questions were formulated for both questionnaires. A questionnaire was administered to the Ward and Theatre Nurses using the convenience sampling technique. The study was conducted in two hospitals ( Al Batool and AL-Khansaa Teaching Hospitals ) located in Mosul city. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 15 for Windows was used by the Statistician to analyze the data.
Results: The findings shows the demographic characteristics of the study sample. The table shows that most of the study sample are from AL-Khansaa Hospital (50.9%). According to the age, the highest percentage was in the age group (18-27 years) (43.6%), and the lowest group are of age (more than 47 years) (8%). According to level of education the highest percentage is of High school (56.4%) (62), and the lowest is (12.7%) (14). In the relation to their Experience, the highest percentage is (74.5%) for the group of (1-10 years), and the lowest percentage is (6.4%) for the group of (more than 30 years).
Conclusions: The nurses’ had good knowledge about the specific laparoscopic .
Recommendation: Ward and theatre nurses should be learn about informed consent taking and the legal implications if not taken correctly and the emphasis on their role and responsibilities during consent taking. This could be done during in-service education.
Evaluation of Knowledge and Practice of Nursing Staff Regarding Immediate Care after Birth in Kirkuk City Hospitals

Background and aim: The first hours days and weeks after child birth are a dangerous time for mother and newborn most death occur during or immediately after childbirth. This study aimed to evaluate knowledge and practices of nursing staff regarding immediate care after birth in Kirkuk city hospitals
Materials and method: A descriptive study was carried out from first October 2013 to first October 2014. The study carried out at two hospitals in Kirkuk city. The study sample consists of (50) midwives and nurses. A questionnaire was comprised of two parts: demographic data and questionnaire to evaluate the midwives knowledge regarding mother and newborn baby care immediately after birth and observational checklist to evaluate the midwives and nurses practice. Content validity was determined by presenting the items to panel of. Reliability of the questionnaire (tool)
Results: the study finding indicates that there was adequate knowledge of midwives –nurse immediately after birth and accepted practice.
Conclusion: the study concludes that midwives and nurses have adequate knowledge regarding mother and newborn baby immediately after birth. Midwives and nurses have accepted practice during providing care for mother and newborn baby immediately after birth.
Recommendation: training courses inside and outside country for midwives and nurses about giving care to mother and newborn baby to improve the quality of nursing care that provided to mothers and newborn immediately after birth.
Mother Awareness Regarding Oral Contraceptive Pills in Family Planning Center in Kirkuk City

Background and aim: The family planning involves choosing if and when to have children. It includes contraception, the prevention of pregnancy as well as methods to achieve pregnancy this method used by couples having difficulty attaining pregnancy. In addition, using contraceptives has been shown to promote a woman’s sense of autonomy and increase her ability to make decisions in other areas of her life This study aims at identifying mother's awareness regarding to oral contraceptive pills in Kirkuk city, as well as to find a relationship between women's knowledge and attitude with some socio- demographic characteristics such as (mother's age, level of education, occupation, number of children, socioeconomic status, medical data, miscarriage and parity).
Materials and method: A descriptive study Probability (Purposive sample) consists of 500 women who attended the typical primary health care centers in Kirkuk city, for a period from November, 1st , 2013 to October, 1st, 2014. Constructed questionnaire designed to questioned women's about oral contraceptive pills, The data were collected through the use of the interview. They were analyzed through the application of descriptive statistical analysis (frequency and percentage) and inferential statistical data analysis (ANOVA).
Results: The findings of the study indicated that (37%) were in the age group (35 and above), and (37.7%) of the sample were graduating from primary school, (78.2%) of them were a housewife, (59.2%) of the sample had barely sufficient monthly income. The study indicated that (41%) have (1-3) children, and (59.6%) had no history of chronic disease.
Conclusion: Further studies include samples from rural areas and compare their awareness to the urban women regarding family planning methods.
Recommendations: the study found a high awareness regarding to oral contraceptive pills among women. In addition, a significant relationship was found between level of education, number of children and awareness regarding to oral contraceptive pills.
Assessment of College of Nursing Students' Knowledge about Autism Disorder

Background and aim: Knowledge and awareness about childhood autism is something essential for students at college of nursing. Poor knowledge about childhood autism among final year nursing students who would be child health care professionals can compromise early recognition and interventions that are known to improve prognosis in childhood autism. This study assesses the knowledge of undergraduate nursing students at College of Nursing University of Mosul about Autism.
Materials and method: The sample of the study consists of 110 undergraduate students in College of Nursing / University of Mosul. They were chosen randomly. They are (32) males and (78) females. A questionnaire presented by the researchers after comprehensive review.
Results: The results of the study showed that a high percentage (85.5%) of the students stated that they didnot study about this subject. It also showed that (87.3 %) of the participants answered that parents’ careless leads to Autistic disorder.
Conclusion: Depending on the results, the study showed that there is no care about this subject in studying curriculums of the college. It also showed that the lack of support and assistance given from parents to their children leads to autism. Most of the sample of this study donot know if there are any health care centers in Mosul city for Autistic disorder
Recommendations: More attention should be paid about this subject in studying curriculums at the college. Then awareness about Autistics disorder need to be improved among students and parents.
Utilization of Antenatal Care in Primary Health Centers in Mosul City

Background and aim: most women enter pregnancy period in apparent good health and achieve a normal pregnancy, and birth without complications. For a few women, however, suffer in the course of the pregnancy for reasons that are usually unclear antenatal care aims at preventing complications. The study aims to utilize health care services for pregnant women in primary health centers.
Materials and method: a cross sectional study was conducted and adopted in Al - Quds and Al – Hadbaa' primary health care centers, the data started to be gathered from 1st of September 2010 - 10th March 2011. To achieve the adjectives of the study, Accidently sample consist from (400) pregnant women were selected, the data were collected through using constructed checklistwhich consist from four parts ,the first is dealing with the pregnant information registration that include (5 item) , the second part is related to laboratory test which consist of (12 item), while the third part is about health education which include (13 items) and finally the last part is dealing with high risk problem that consist of (8 items). The validity and reliability test was done to ensure the consistency of study tool which the correlation coefficient is (86.4) with standard deviation about ( 0.43).
Results: the results of the study indicated the health services that introduce to pregnant women who attending to primary health care centers is applied in these centers ,the implementation of chart is highly performance with some variance of some result that related to investigation property and availability, finally the differences between two centers show significance by the health education in dealing with risk factor.
Conclusion: the present study concluded that there is a good implementing almost all aspects of the pregnant women health services management.
Recommendation: the researcher can conclude that the utilization of the pregnant women chart and application in strict way had the high impact on preventing pre and antenatal problem in pregnancy and training practice on it.
